Updated for World War II, Nevada was the only battleship to get under way during the Pearl Harbor attack. She was hit with at least 6 aerial bombs and 1 torpedo in an attempt to sink Nevada in the channel. Skippered by junior officers with initiative, the Nevada was beached. She was refloated, sent to Puget Sound Navy Yard and went through repairs and modernization. Nevada would go to participate in 5 amphibious assaults: Attu in the Aleutians, D Day Normandy, Southern France, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. She was then used in the Bimini Island atomic bomb tests and sunk as a target ship. She suffered 60 killed in action, 109 wounded in action at Pearl Harbor with 2 salvage divers perishing. Off Okinawa she was hit by a kamikaze aircraft suffering 11 dead, 49 wounded. Later in the Battle a shore battery scored a hit killing 2 more sailors.
