Description: WW2 Japanese Army Officer Parade Sword. Company grade sword (backstrap design only at top quarter area of backstrap), also, on the backstrap in lower quarter section is two applied Mon (Emblem to identify individual or family). The triple wire wrapped black plastic/celluloid grip in worn condition with areas of the wire wrap coming loose at portions, however, still a decent look. The pierced gilded brass D-guard and pommel with nice patina. Ten petal cherry blossom decorations (for the Army) on each side of backstrap “ears” and on top area of back strap. The machine-made chrome plated blade with artificial wavy line temper in good condition. Leather buffer pad still in place. The single-ring scabbard is in worn condition with some issues to areas to the plating of the nickel-plated steel-based scabbard.Blade length approximately 31inches, about 36 inches overall length. Worn condition, however, unusual with the two family Mon on the backstrap. Additional Notes: Japanese Mons are Japanese emblems used to decorate and identify an individual, a family, or (more recently) an institution or business entity. While Mon is an encompassing term that may refer to any such device, kamon and mondokoro refer specifically to emblems that are used to identify a family. An authoritative Mon reference compiles Japan’s 241 general categories of Mon based on structural resemblance (a single Mon may belong to multiple categories), with 5,116 distinct individual Mon. However, it is well acknowledged that there are a number of lost or obscure Mon.
