Description: "Wilmington Old and New" by The Diamond State Telephone Company, published 1929. The first 15 pages are a history of Wilmington from 1628 to 1929. The next 2 pages list "Facts Worth Knowing About Wilmington," including the fact that it had (in 1929) ten hotels and eight newspapers. Pages 18 through 33 detail "The Telephone History of Wilmington," which began in 1878 when "W.T. Westbrook brought two telephone instruments to Wilmington from Philadelphia" and "connected one instrument at his office at the northeast corner of Third and Market Streets with the other one in his home at 510 West Third Street." The volume was published with a notebook-type cover, which has some wear, especially on the spine, as shown. The pages inside are clean except for smudging on the copyright page and title page. The smudges do not affect the text. Our father grew up in Wilmington and collected many Delaware-related items.
