Description: Here is a great example of a native-made craft from the Marshall Islands, South Pacific and of the skill of Micronesian weavers using seagrass, cowrie shells, and natural dyes to produce stunning baskets and bowls that are both utilitarian and also great for display. This example was obtained on Kwajalein Atoll in a gift shop around 1970 that displayed items made throughout Micronesia. The basket is in good condition and has been kept in our display case for decades with our other treasures. This item measures 14 inches across and is 2 inches deep. It incorporates over 100 cowrie shells into the woven design as symmetrical accents. See photos for details. We are listing a number of our Micronesian artifacts so check for our other listings. This basket will be carefully packed in padding inside a rigid box, and shipped promptly with tracking info provided.
