Description: Jack O'Connor was a writer and outdoorsman, best known as a writer for Outdoor Life magazine, where he served as the Shooting Editor for 31 years. BOOM TOWN is O'Connor's second book, a historical western novel about a town that springs up after a silver strike. "The town was filled with dsert rats, drifters, claim-jumpers, gamblers, slick promoters, gunmen, fugitives . . . the jangle of their silver blending with the laughter of prostitutes, and the sudden roar of gunfire." After Boom Town, O'Connor went on to write over a dozen non-fiction books about game and hunting, as well as novellas and articles for Redbook, Mademoiselle, Reader's Digest, Cosmopolitan, Esquire, the literary magazine Midland, and other magazines popular in the late 1930s and 1940s. The Dell Books' edition of BOOM TOWN -- #D-129 published in 1953 -- is a reprint of the 1938 hardcover edition published by Alfred A. Knopf. It features a great cover by Stanley Borack who painted paperback book covers for Avon Books, Dell, the Lion Library, Perma Books, and Pocket Books during the 1950s. He also also painted digest covers for Luke Short's Western Magazine and Zane Grey's Western Magazine from 1952 to 1956 and for some of the last pulp magazines as well as the men's adventure magazines. This copy of Dell's BOOM TOWN is in VG to near fine condition with a reader's crease on the front cover, close to the spine. There is a very little bit of rubbing to the bottom edge of the front cover. A mild reader's crease to the spine and a mild crease to the outside bottom corner of the back cover. The interior paper is off-white and in very nice shape.
