Description: You will receive the exact coin shown in the photo. The minting of copper coins was the exclusive prerogative of the shogunate, but by the end of the Edo period, due to a nationwide shortage of currency, the Edo shogunate allowed each domain to mint local currency. In the Akita domain, which was blessed with mines, the production of four types of copper coins began between the 2nd and 3rd years of the Bunkyū era (1862-1863). One of these is the Akita Tsubasen (鍔銭) coin. On the obverse side, a pair of phoenixes (male and female) is depicted, while the reverse side features a pattern of the Eight Trigrams (bagua). The character '久' (ku) is engraved on the edge, indicating the first minting during the Bunkyū era. The shape of this coin is said to have been based on the favorite tsuba (sword guard) of the Daimyo of Akita. It is said to have been valued at one hundred mon, but this soon reduced to 80 mon. Based on the length of the phoenix's tail, the coins are classified as 'long-tailed', 'medium-tailed', and 'short-tailed'. This particular coin is 'short-tailed' (短尾, tanbi).------ Shipping Information • Handling Time: 10business days after payment. • Shipping by USPS First-Class Package International Service.
