Description: One of the true Holy Grails of all UFO Flying Saucer Memorabilia (in my opinion the very best of all early UFO items): Original 1950 booklet publication personally produced and distributed by Kenneth Arnold in 1950 in defense of and in response to skepticism about his UFO sighting. After reportedly witnessing UFOs in 1947, and coining the term "flying saucers" to describe what he saw, and going public with his claims, Kenneth Arnold both peaked the interest of many others including some who saw similar phenomena, and at the same time made himself a target of non-believers. In response, he went to great lengths to properly communicate his experience, in his own words, and to assemble official documents and correspondence related that were supportive. This rare volume was personally sold by Kenneth Arnold to those interested, and though I have only seen pictures of several surviving copies (they are so rare), all of these were signed, so I assume that every one of the few copies sold was personally signed. I'm not sure if these were sold by mail or offered at small in-person lectures (or both) but judging by the extreme rarity, it was definitely printed and available only in very small numbers. 12 x 9 inches. 16 pages. Self-Published by Keneth Arnold. 1950. Beautiful condition, perfectly flat, Excellent. Strong signature. Obviously very well cared for over the past 75 years. There is no one more responsible for the popularization of flying of flying saucers in American culture than Kenneth Arnold. He is universally credited with the first widely reported modern unidentified flying object sighting in the United States, after claiming to have seen nine unusual objects flying in tandem near Mount Rainier, Washington on June 24, 1947. This 1950 self-published signed booklet by Kenneth Arnold is Ground Zero in the history and fascination and promotion of credibility (or pseudo-credibility for non-believers) of UFOs in American Popular Culture.I can't find another example for sale anywhere. It is a great and very significant item. Value is subjective, and is especially so when I can't find other examples for sale (or even offered or sold in recent times). At one time I had two of these. I put the other one out for sale on eBay and it sold for $2400. Since then I have had many write me to see if it might still be available. That example, my duplicate, is long gone. I had two because I have been looking for this piece for decades - ever since I learned of its existence- and bought both that I encountered in my decades-long search. This is my single. So I’ve intentionally priced it high enough that it’s worth selling. This is the kind of item that a very high price today might seem like s bargain in the future. Interest in UFOs and their history is not going away. The price isn’t set in stone. I will consider offers but as much as I am downsizing, I am a reluctant seller on this particular piece. As anyone reading this can probably surmise, I really just like it! It is an item that was not on the radar of collectors years ago but is increasingly recognized and revered. I was fortunate to be way “ahead of the curve” in appreciating its rarity and significance. I wouldn’t want to have to find another today. For all practical purposes, I think it’s irreplaceable. I have provided here photos of all pages which I think will be a great resource for collectors and scholars in the future! Shipped Registered US mail for extra safety. Registered may take a few extra days in transit but if you want to be 100% sure a package is not going to get lost, you can’t do better than registered. (If lost, no one would lose any $ but amount of insurance could help us find another!)
