Description: The pair of sculptures depict two young women in traditional dress. One figure carries a sheaf of wheat and a basket full of bread, while the other holds a fruit basket and two birds. The women turn to face one another, talking as they walk. The figures stand on foliate bases, which are encircled by oak leaf wreaths. ‘Aug Moreau’ is signed onto the bases. Auguste Moreau was an important French sculptor, who was active in the late 19th and early 20th Century in France. Auguste was born into a prestigious family of sculptors, which included Jean-Baptiste, Hippolyte and Mathurin Moreau. these were bought from an estate sale. I know nothing about antiques, no idea what material this is, seems like spelter. Minor scratch on the arm of the basket girl, otherwise perfect condition. They are about 25 inches tall.
