Description: Shaohsing Mission Chinese Miniature Cloth Doll Family of 5 On Card c. 1940s These Shaohsing Mission dolls are getting harder and harder to find, especially never removed from the card and in unplayed with condition. Made in the 1920s to the early 1940s, these dolls are most likely from the 1940s, before the missions were ended by the communist takeover of China. It is a family of five dolls--father, mother, 2 daughters, and one son, sewn on to a card that is 6 1/2" by 3 3/4", with the tallest doll being 3." tall and the smallest doll being 1 3/4" tall. The dolls were handcrafted in China and sold to raise funds for the Mission which helped orphans and children in high risk situations. Faces are made from silk and hand painted. Mom and daughter's hair is thread. Hands/fingers are wire as are the doll legs and arms; this makes the dolls poseable. Card is marked MADE IN CHINA on the back of the card. These small dolls, in unplayed with condition, would be at home in a collection of small or miniature dolls, an international doll collection, or a collection of cloth dolls.
