Pleione formosana 'Palo Alto' Flowering-Size Bulb

Description: Pleione formosana 'Palo Alto' Pleione formosana ‘Palo Alto’ is a particularly fine form of this rare orchid species that was given to me years ago by my late friend Geoff Wong. Native to southeastern China, as well as northern and central Taiwan, this wonderful terrestrial offers spherical pseudobulbs that produce single, pleated leaves, and 4-5”, lavender-pink flowers with heavily fringed white lips that are mottled with gold and brown. The plants grow to 6 to 8” tall and can quickly colonize, forming decorative clumps to 12” wide. The long-lasting blooms are one per stem and born in spring. In autumn, the leaves fall, and the plants must be kept dry to barely moist during dormancy. Moderately hardy, this gorgeous and rewarding species may be grown outdoors in mild climates, with protection from direct frost. One of my favorite Orchids, simply because of the ease of cultivation, and the beautiful foliage and flowers. This offering is for one bulb that is completely dormant, and ready to be planted into a 2-3" pot. The bulb (pseudobulb) shipped is blooming size and, with proper cultivation, should/will bloom in the first season! Please note: The third photo shows the roots, which are dry, and will be trimmed off before shipping. The 4th photo shows a bulb planted in a 2 1/2" pot, for reference for planting upon arrival.
