Phil Upchurch w/Marlena Shaw & Russ Ferrante-Name Of The Game-JAM 018-Sealed/New

Description: Why buy a first or early pressing and not a re-issue or a re-mastered vinyl album? First and early pressings are pressed from the first generation lacquers and stampers. They usually sound vastly superior to later issues/re-issues (which, in recent times, are often pressed from whatever 'best' tapes or digital sources are currently available) - many so-called 'audiophile' new 180g pressings are cut from hi-res digital sources, essentially an expensive CD pressed on vinyl. So, with modern reissues, much of the time the only thing Analogue about the issue is that it?s pressed on vinyl as the recording &/or mastering is digital. Most modern studios use Pro Tools or similar All-Digital format; again, the recording or mastering is Digital, not Analogue. Why experience the worse elements of both formats? These are just High Maintenance CDs, with mid-ranges so cloaked with a veil as to sound smeared. They are nearly always compressed with murky transients and a general lifelessness in the overall sound. There are exceptions where re-masters/re-presses outshine the original issues, but they are exceptions and not the norm. First or early pressings nearly always have more immediacy, presence and dynamics. The sound staging is wider. Subtle instrument nuances are better placed with more spacious textures. Balances are firmer in the bottom end with a far-tighter bass. Upper-mid ranges shine without harshness, and the overall depth is more immersive. Inner details are clearer, the music tends to sound more alive and vibrant and you 'hear' what the mixing and mastering engineers wanted you to hear when they first recorded the music. Record Grading Mint - unopened / un-played, often still in shrink-wrap or has not been removed from the jacket. The sleeve is pristine condition, looks new. NM (Near Mint) The vinyl looks glossy and clearly has only been played a few times. There are no marks on the vinyl and the whole package is complete. The sleeve may have very light corner wear, the odd small dent / line. EX (Excellent) very light marks where the vinyl has been in and out of the inner sleeve a few times, or tiny signs of use generally. VG+ will show some signs that it was played and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. Defects should be more of a cosmetic nature ( A little rub, slight scuffs, light inaudible marks, a little background crackle.) Sleeve will show some wear such as light creases but will be in-tact. There may be light ring wear / discolouring. VG marks or scuffs may be felt by finger-tip touch, Light pops and clicks, an edge split, light visible scratches. may be evident as will background noise. Generally these will not over-power the sound quality but are present. Sleeves may have seam splits, more significant wear / ring-wear / discolouring GOOD+/GOOD - Can be played through without skipping. But will likely have significant surface noise, 'ticks' scratches, and visible groove wear. Sleeve will have seam splits, especially at the bottom or on the spine. Tape, writing, ring wear, or other defects will be present. Photos are of the actual item- $2.00 shipping charge per additional LP (if shipping to Continental USA).
