Description: *NEW* from the original Tidwell Art Gallery owner. This print is not pre-owned. 2003 Sunset Sound, Shem Creek Charleston Spoleto 23X32 By Miles Batt from Tidwell Art Gallery. Spoleto Festival USA was founded in 1977 by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Gian Carlo Menotti, Christopher Keene, and others who sought to create an American counterpart to their annual Festival of Two Worlds in Spoleto, Italy. Looking for a city that would provide the charm of Spoleto as well as its wealth of theaters, churches and other performances spaces, they selected Charleston as the ideal location. The historic city provided a perfect fit: intimate enough that the Festival would captivate the entire city, yet cosmopolitan enough to provide an enthusiastic audience and robust infrastructure. This Miles Batt abstract print features the beautiful Shem Creek. Shem creek flows the heart of Mount Pleasant and is known for its many waterfront bars and restaurants. It offers a variety of leisure activities including fishing, boating, kayaking, and paddleboarding. The creek's name derives from the Sewee Native American word “shemee,” but whether that was the name of a tribe who lived along the banks or the name they gave to the creek itself is undetermined. Europeans settled and brought the shrimping industry, ferries and since given way to bridges and charter boats. Shem creeks remains one of the most popular channels in the area.Check out my store for other Charleston posters and prints and Charleston artists. Thank you for looking!
