Description: Set a fine table for your honored guests and beloved family... "Legato" Sterling Silver Flatware by TOWLE SILVERSMITHS HISTORY & STYLE The history of the Towle company (pronounced like ‘tole’, not ‘towel’) starts with a two-person smithy founded in Newbury, Massachusetts in 1857. The firm grew in numbers and esteem to become one of the most prestigious sterling makers in the world. For example, Towle’s “Marie Louise” pattern is the official sterling silver flatware used in all the 190 or so embassies of the United States of America. Another Towle pattern (“Contour”) is the only American flatware honored as exemplifying ‘Good Design’ by the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) of New York. Towle produced “Legato” from 1962 to 2009, the company’s response to demand for a sterling pattern without lavish decorations. Strictly speaking it is a ‘Tudor’ design. The top of the stem has a reflected pair of flourishes that hold aloft a simple inverted double scroll. A polished convex field is flanked by paired flourishes that alternately scoop inward or outward, giving way to simple threading that outlines the narrow central stem. Modest flourishes adorn the shoulders of the piece, with little overlap onto the bowl. The flatware pieces are each highly symmetrical -- there is no ‘thickened tine’ on the individual salad fork, for instance. The weight of the implements is balanced well and the rounded shapes of the stems have no angled corners: this is a pattern that is pleasing in the hand. “Legato” works well for large gatherings of an informal nature, perhaps a buffet dinner or a celebratory party. It is also simple enough to be used for everyday. 78 PIECES OF STERLING SILVER FLATWARE *** PLACE-SETTING - 72 PIECES 12 Knife 9" 12 Fork 7-1/2" 12 Teaspoon 6 " 12 Individual Salad Fork 6-1/2" 12 Soup/Dessert Spoon, oval 6-1/2" 12 Individual Butter Spreader, hollow-handle 6-7/8" SERVING - 6 PIECES 1 Sugar (powdered creamer) Spoon 5 7/8" 1 Gravy Ladle 6-1/2" 1 Table (serving) Spoon, solid 8-3/8" 1 Table (serving) Spoon, pierced 8-3/8" 1 Cold Meat Fork 9" 1 Master Butter Knife, hollow-handle 6-7/8" STORAGE CHEST Your set of sterling silver flatware comes with a storage chest (pictured) for safekeeping and to prevent tarnishing. PROFESSIONAL POLISHING, CLEANING, PACKING, SHIPPING Here at US Coins, we take great pride in providing excellent service to our customers. That might be why we have such a loyal following! One of the services we provide for sets of sterling flatware is that we hand-polish it on a jewelers wheel, then we clean it from the polishing process. And we don’t charge extra for this extra care. (Other vendors charge $5-7 to polish EACH PIECE!). When the set is delivered to you, it is ready for immediate use and enjoyment. We have a dedicated person on staff to package fine silver for shipping. He puts each piece in its own poly bag, then he carefully packs everything in a sturdy carton, layering it and cushioning it to distribute the weight and to prevent damage. Finally, your silver is shipped well insured. Why go through all this effort? We want you to love your silver as much as we do, and we want US Coins to be your favorite source for vintage and antique fine silver! WHO WE ARE, and WHY WE’RE YOUR BEST CHOICE ENI (Eastern Numismatics Inc.) is a multi-generation, family-run company that began in 1974. Initially the enterprise was only for buying and selling rare coins and gold & silver bullion -- hence the easy-to-remember ‘US Coins’. Over time we expanded into other pre-owned valuables: jewelry, sterling tableware, and other collectibles. What we came to realize was this: we’re different from other merchants in the same line of business. We give honest appraisals when buying, and we sell at a fair price. Candidly, we don’t chisel, and we don’t gouge. Customers sometimes tell us their sad tales of woe, being ‘taken advantage of’ by dealers who prey on the unknowledgeable. We don’t do that. I guess our mother raised us right. Thanks, Mom!
