The company was established in Belgrade, Yugoslavia in 1947 and was successor of topic airliner Aeroput (est. 1927). In November 1974, a JAT B-707 flies around the world on the route Belgrade — Beirut — Bombay — Singapore — Tokyo — Honolulu — Los Angeles — London — Belgrade. JAT was the first airliner in Europe to purchase B737-300. The best performance was achieved In 1987 when JAT ranked 31st in the world and 10th in Europe on the IATA and AEA lists of the largest airlines connecting Yugoslavia with 61 world destinations on five continents. JAT had an annual turnover of over five million passengers and 46 thousand tons of goods, with a fleet of 36 aircraft. Egg shape livery was used until 1994. Company changed name to JAT Airways in 2003 and in 2013 is re branded Air Serbia.
