Description: Glacier Pilot - The Story of Bob Reeve and the Flyers Who Pushed Back Alaska's Air Frontiers by Beth Day. Holt, Rinehart and Winston, New York, New York. 1964. Hardcover. Third printing. DJ. Lengthy inscription by Bob Reeve to Brig General Bob ? Here is the rousing story of Bob Reeve, Alaska's first glacier pilot, and of the tough, salty, adventuring bunch of bush pilots who pioneered Alaska's skies in single-engine planes, without communications, navigational aids, or airfields. It is a story of how raw courage, incredible determination, a strong sense of humor, and an unquenchable lust for life and excitement helped to convert a rugged frontier into the Alaska of today." From Wikipedia: "In 1946, Reeve formed Reeve Aleutian Airways and was its President until his death in 1980. He allowed his pilot’s license to lapse in 1948 after he caught himself missing an item on a checklist. Reeve was invited to run for territorial governor of Alaska in 1952, but decided against this due to a conflict of interests. Reeve received an honorary Doctor of Science degree at the University of Alaska in 1963. Reeve was named "Alaskan of the Year" in 1972 and inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame in 1975. 348 pages with many b/w photographs and map endpapers. The book is clean and nice. The DJ has rough edges and a long tear (taped on the inside). Bad chips on the back. Powered by eBay Turbo Lister The free listing tool. List your items fast and easy and manage your active items.
