The numbers on knob corresponding to the 12 imaged stitch patterns on front of machine to right of knob. The machine comes with 14 spools and 16 loaded bobbins of thread that makes it easy to start sewing right away. The sewing machine runs on 4 AA batteries or a supplied AC/DC power supply cord. The sewing machine can do 12 different stitch patterns. I did sample stitching of the 12 different stitch patterns. I did this to show it works well. I also cleaned & lubricated the unit. It comes with instructional sheet and a work platform with legs that gives a larger work surface with edge measures. This would be a great starter sewing machine. You can get a foot pedal for start and stop control on the internet. I just used the 2 speed switch on the front right on the unit. The thread routing is shown on the top and front of the machine. The bobbin is just dropped into the tray in front of the presser foot under the clear slide out cover. There is a LED light above stitching mechanism and the purple switch button is to the left of the LED light on the underside of the sewing machine arm head above the stitching mechanism. There's a dial on the front of the sewing arm that controls thread tension. I have it on 3 you want it to allow the thread to feed through not too tight just taught but not loose. The presser foot holds your work down and allows the feet under it to walk the material along. There's a purple lever under the sewing machine arm that engages the presser foot down or disengages the foot so you can turn your work or remove it. When removing work disengage the presser foot and turn the knob on the right side of the machine to clear the needle from the work. Pull the work out to make a length of thread then cut your thread. Pull a length of both the threads from the needle and some from the bobbin. Pull threads to the back. Thread from needle needs to go through presser foot. When starting lift presser foot, place material under presser foot, release presser foot with lever. Press the loose threads down with your left hand so the thread will not pull backwards. Use your right hand to turn the wheel on the right side of machine to manually start the stitching. This locks the stitch. Now switch the switch on the lower front of the machine to L this starts the sewing. Just switch it to off to stop. Play with the unit with scraps of fabric. Old T Shirts are great. There are lots of spools of thread (14)and preloaded bobbins(16). If you need to load a bobbin there's a purple bobbin loader on top right back of unit, put bobbin on the taller post, tie a thread end around bobbin base, feed thread around 1st thread guide, move bobbin on post toward short roller post, switch sewing machine switch to L on front. This should start bobbin turning. The bobbin post is the switch. You can always turn the front switch to off. Practicing is the key. Read the manual and go back to playing with the unit. The sewing machine is made in China and is suitable for household sewing purposes. It is a great addition to any crafter's collection.
