KINGMAN Turquoise: Kingman turquoise has a rich history that dates back over 1,000 years. Native Americans are thought to have discovered the mine in the Mineral Park District, on the outskirts of Kingman, Arizona, over 1,000 years ago. Archaeologists have traced it back to the mine and dated it to 200 AD. Commercial mining of the area began in the 1880s, and the Colbaugh family has owned and operated Kingman facilities since the start of Arizona's turquoise mining boom. The Kingman Turquoise Mine is the last remaining commercially producing mine in the United States and has produced the largest quantity of turquoise stones in recorded history. The mine is an enormous open pit that produces a high-quality turquoise that is considered among the top in the United States. The most famous stones from the mine are rounded bright blue nuggets with black matrix, and the high blue color has become a "color standard" in the industry known as "Kingman Blue". TOPAZ: Light blue varieties of topaz can be found in Texas, though not commercially mined there. Blue topaz became an official gemstone of Texas in 1969, the same year Utah adopted topaz as its state gemstone. Until the 1950s, topaz was known almost exclusively as a yellow to golden gemstone. But since then, the routine radiation and heat treatment of pale-colored topaz to turn it deep blue has changed the public's perception of this gem. To most people today, topaz is recognized primarily as an affordable blue gemstone. The highly prized imperial topaz is intense golden to reddish-orange in color. More commonly topaz is colorless to pale blue or yellow. Pink or red stones are rare, although pink stones can be produced by heating the golden brown topaz from Ouro Preto, Brazil. This football-shaped blue topaz gem from Minas Gerais, Brazil, weighs 7,033ct. Like most blue topaz, its stable color is the result of irradiation and heat treatment; originally this topaz was probably colorless or very pale yellow-brown. Item Details: Genuine TOPAZ, Genuine KINGMAN Turquoise & Sterling Silver (.925) LEGEND: Sterling Silver: Genuine .925 Silver Nickel Silver: This used to be named German silver, and silversmiths have used it for the last century for making jewelry. It contains no actual silver and many buyers prefer it over sterling because it does not tarnish and has a shinier look. Genuine Turquoise: Real turquoise stone, although it may be stabilized to protect it. Block Turquoise: Again, this has been used by artisans for decades. It is created in a laboratory and sold to silversmiths by jewelry supply stores in large blocks, hence, the name, block turquoise. Other stones that are made in blocks will described as such. Pawn Jewelry: Jewelry that has been pawned by the owner to a pawn shop, usually in New Mexico. OLD Pawn is jewelry that is vintage or older and was pawned, then acquired by someone else from the pawn .720 Silver: .720 Silver is the same quality used in production of vintage/old coins (not old as in age). This silver consists of 72% pure silver. © copyright 2023 - 2026 (the whole listing incl pictures)
