Description: Circa 1870 to 1890’s Early American painted tin toy circus like cart pulled by a man riding a horse. The design of the cart & the man as outrider gives us the feeling of a circus wagon. This toy was made by a Philadelphia, Pa. toy company which was founded in 1870. The company went in to business in 1870 & was registered under the name "C. B. Porter" Company. The owners of the company were James Fallows & his three sons David, Charles, & Henry. In 1894 the name of the company was changed to "Frederick & Henry Fallows Toys". Toys made by this company are generally referred to by collectors as having been made by Fallows since the Fallows family owned the company from when it was founded in 1870. This toy is in an appealing, very scarce, & delicate size of 6 1/4 inches by long by 2 1/2 inches tall by 2 3/16 inches wide. The weight is 1.6 ounces. We have always found this toy quite appealing & have had it in our collection for approximately 15-20 years. It was found in an old time estate in Pennsylvania where it had, most likely, been residing since it was originally made. We have never seen another example of this toy in our 50+ years of collecting, observing, and dealing in the antiques toy market. The toy is entirely original in all respects. It has never been cleaned, repaired, broken, touched-up, or had anything done to it. We have never even dusted it during the time that we have owned it. But, it has been stored in a closed cabinet while in our possession. There is some paint loss & you can see the precise condition in the pics.
