Description: Retrofuturistic Citizen Independent 1481010 Ana Digi Temp 8987-L19109 TA = IT21-4272Z WP Perpetual Alarm Chronograph Condition: Pre-owned; Good to Very Good Condition; Sold AS IS Dimensions: Approx. 36mm diameter excluding crown, 40mm lug-lug, 11mm thick; 27mm lug width Accessories: Original 27mm Citizen signed stainless bracelet; No box/paper/tags Notes: Up for auction here is a Cool Retrofuturistic Citizen Independent 1481010 Ana Digi Temp 8987-L19109 TA = IT21-4272Z WP Perpetual Alarm Chronograph. From the title, you can tell there's a lot going on in this unique watch that was only sold in Japan. The watch should date to February 1998 based on the caseback serial. I could never figure out Citizen's naming conventions but this watch was also noted to be model IT21-4272Z WP based on the sales tag (not included). The Citizen Independent 1481010 Series had a short run between 1996-2000 as a sub-brand featuring ambitious designs and collaboration models with modern designers; the sub brand was revived in 2008 and remains largely Japan-only series so they are not common to find domestically. Of interest, Citizen resurrected it's 1980's Cal. 8987 Analog Digital Temperature caliber for some of their Independent 1481010 series watches to fit the retrofuturistic design. The colored white dial is different from the bland silver and gold dial of the '80s watches; no bleed on the LED screens; the assymmetric flat mineral crystal give a cool look (off central left scratch noted, no cracks). Polished stainless steel case and snap caseback have a few light scratches. All buttons are non-sticky and depress well; 1/1000 second digital chronograph works without issues. Movement looks clean, battery changed about 1 year back; not sure what's left on the reserve. I was able to test the time function, light, and the analog dial is working but since I don't know how all the functions work and can't guarantee it, the watch will be Sold AS IS, No Returns (a Google Search can help you figure it out). Of note the watch has a perpetual calendar function, but being a 1980s caliber the calendar tops out at 2020; you can select a year prior that synchronizes with the calendar (currently set to 1984 leap year). The original 27mm bracelet can only fit my 7.5 inch with 1 extra microadjustment; there are no extra links and you can't size it smaller so best to change to a strap if this does not fit you. These Citizen Ana Digi Temp watches are quite collectible but this uncommon Citizen Independent reinterpretation provides a bit more pop on the wrist - don't miss out!
