Description: RARE WW2 BRITISH LEATHER TAB TO ATTACH THE No 4 SPIKE BAYNET TO THE P1937 WEB FROG. ORIGINAL WW2A 12 cms STRIP OF BROWN LEATHER WITH A BRASS KEYHOLE PLATE SEWN AT ONE END. This was used to hold the No4 spike baynet into the webbing frog which was designed for the SMLE bayonet. Although the stud on the scabbard could be passed through the slot on the frog, it was a loose fit and often resulted in the loss of the byonet & scabbard !. This leather tab is designed to fit over the frog stud of the scabbard and around the top strip of the frog , attaching the cut out brass plate to the protruding stud. Later in WW2 a smaller web frog was developed for the spike byonet, rendering these tabs obsolete. This tab is an original WW2 made example in USED & STORED condition however There is a small amount of verdi gris on the surface of the brass and some minor staining and creasing to the leather achieved through years of storage. this could be cleaned off if you wish.
