A collection of the best ghost stories which the compiler could find, roughly within the limits of the past hundred years, and omitting a few stories which have been too often reprinted. It ranges therefore from Wilkie Collins to John Collier, from Kipling to Elizabeth Bowen. While there are plenty of straightforward ghosts in this book, the title has been a little stretched to include other manifestations of the supernatural, dreadful or curious; and one or two stories provide light relief, in burlesque or surprise. ConditionExternally in very good condition with most minor bumping to corners, a little rubbing to front and rear paste-downs, and two pen inscriptions to FFEP and half-title page. In a very good, unclipped dust wrapper with bright, lovely illustrated panels, a little creasing, a little nibbling to spine tips and a little wear to front flap. The dust wrapper has now been placed in an archival sleeve. A very nice copy of this rarer first edition.
