According to him the three filters and reverse osmosis cartridge inside this unit have about 50% of their life left. Owing to the construction underway in his house, we completely disassembled and cleaned this unit. We also replaced all the hoses as well as a couple of fittings that looked a little iffy. We contacted APEC’s technical service for information on how to test the machine. They told us that if the machine can produce one gallon of filtered water in 15-20 minutes, then it’s working properly and the filters are not clogged. We found this machine produced one gallon of filtered water in about 17 minutes, so it appears to be okay. It’s important to understand that this machine is not an “on demand” machine. The user is expected to fill a gallon container with filtered water and use the water in that container as needed, storing it in your refrigerator between uses. When it’s near empty you then make another batch. The machine comes with user instructions that explain how it’s attached to your faucet and how to change filters when that becomes necessary. The unit comes with about 30 feet of spare hose which is used to replace the current hoses when they become soiled or damaged. Approximately 6.5” x 6.5” x 15.5”, and weighs about 10 lbs.
