Description: “L A was booming. It had become a major city in the west and a great place to have a business in the 1890s. He felt good about what he had accomplished. It was just a small clock shop but kept him busy and his family well fed. He decided it was time to visit his people in Utah. His apprentice would run the shop for a while. He had moved to a better climate for his consumption which seemed to be working. The Standard Pharmacy was just around the corner, so he filled his prescription, packed up and got on the train to SLC. He arrived in Salt Lake and was greeted by his people where he was staying in the city. The city was a bustling hub as well. The home was nice but not luxurious. Indoor plumbing was still not universal. He was able to see the city and took a trip to see Salt Air. On his last morning, he dawned his coat for his morning constitution in the two-holer out back. In his pocket was the last of his prescription and with a bottle of medicinal whiskey from his other pocket, he washed it down and dropped the bottle in the hole. He would get another at the local Schramm-Johnson drug where the cars stop.” What he left us was this nice 4 ½” “STANDARD PHARMACY LOS ANGELES CAL” bottle. It is 1 ¾” square turning a nice sun-colored amethyst rising to a rolled lip common in the 1890s. It’s in dug condition with some haze inside. The bottom is uneven and there are some nice bubbles with no chips, cracks or other damage. It’s a nice example of this Western drug store.
