Description: This beautiful American Optical Co 5 x 8 view camera is over 130 years old. The bottom of the unique lens says R Morrison NY No 1076. The front glass element of the lens screws off and there is an aperture dial behind it. There are 5 different sized holes on the aperture. The glass element of the lens is in very good condition and there is a lens cap. The sides of the camera are beautifully dovetailed. The wood is a reddish brown. It looks like mahogany or cherry (but I am not a wood expert). The removable lens board is 6 11/16 inches x 3 7/8 inches. The bellows ARE NOT light tight. The 5 x 8 frosted glass on the back is in very good condition. When the camera is fully extended on the rear tailboard, it is 12 inches long. The back of the camera tilts and can be held in place with a locking pin?...(see next to the last pic because I really do not know what to call it). The wood is in excellent shape considering the age...there are no big worn or damaged wood area (except for the bottom). This is a beautiful very old camera that is in very good condition and would be a wonderful addition to any camera collection. I do not have the time or energy to do it, but if the camera was cleaned and the brass polished, it would be stunting. The camera will not completely close (see last pic) and I do not want to force it, so I will very carefully wrap it in lots of bubble wrap.
