Description: The Mural Project, selected and with an introduction by Peter Wright and John Armor, a preface by William Mott, Jr., (past director of the National Park Service) and with photographs by Ansel Adams, is a 112 page, 9 1/4 X 10 3/4 inch hardcover book published by Reverie Press, Santa Barbara, CA. The copyright date is 1989, and this is a first edition: the copyright page states "First Printing, March 1989" and the publication year (1989) is printed at the bottom of the title page. The book is in very good plus condition in a very good plus price-clipped dustjacket, with black boards, silver spine titles and gray endpapers. Synopsis - During 1941-1942, Ansel Adams was employed by the US Department of the Interior to take a series of photographs in the Western national parks, commissioned by Harold Ickes to create a decorative mural for the Department of the Interior's museum in Washington, DC. Adams completed a series of 225 signed exhibition prints, but the project was put away during WWII, and was never completed. This book includes 85 photographs selected by Wright and Armor, including sections on the Grand Canyon, Indians of the Southwest, Yellowstone, Carlsbad Caverns and more, accompanied by descriptive text by Adams and quotes from the writings and speeches of Theodore Roosevelt. Includes an index of the photographs. Condition Details - The book has a square spine, a tight binding, and no marks, foxing, tears, creases or writing. The cover has one bumped corner at the bottom foredge corner of the front panel, no other edgewear, stains or soil. The textblock edges are white and clean. The glossy dustjacket (in new, protective Brodart) has very light rubwear on the rear panel, no chips or tears. No unpleasant odors. I never use stock photos.
