These coins are also known as Spanish Piece of Eight. They were cut into 8 pieces/bits to provide a smaller denomination. 8 Reales Cob from Spice Islands Shipwreck were minted in the New World during the reign of Philip IV of Spain. The mines of Potosi were the richest silver mines in the world and produced the majority of the world's silver. These coins still have that nice historic beauty after being on the ocean floor for almost 400 years. Each of these coins is unique because they were hand hammered.
