Auction records indicate that specimen notes of Australia's NNS polymer notes fall into two ranges - the first numbers from 50 through to around 85 seem to have been allocated to dignitaries and officials involved with the design, production and distribution of Australia's banknotes. The second serial number range, from the 200s through to the 1300s seems to have been allocated for use by NPA / RBA staff at international printing and banking conferences. The first polymer $100 note from the NNS series to appear at auction was offered for sale at the Goodman's auction in Double Bay (Sydney) of the estate of Nugget Coombs, the former Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia. Nugget's $100 specimen note made a hammer price of $11,000 against a reserve of $10,000. Just 8 other $100 polymer specimens with serials in the 50-85 range have been sighted at auction to date. This is an incredibly rare Australian polymer decimal specimen note. When we keep in mind that no specimens of the NGB polymer notes have been sighted to date, this may well be the last Australian specimen note available to collectors.
