Captain J.C. Kelly Rogers (above), commander of the giant British Flying Boat, "Caribou", scans a British paper with the day-before dateline on his arrival in Port Washington, August 6. Commander Rogers bought the paper in England on August 5 just before he took off from Southamption with his crew on the inaugural Transatlantic flight of an all-British air mail service to New York. The plane carried 70,000 letters stamped to a value of nearly $15,000.Photo measures 9 x 7.25inches. Photo is dated 08-06-1939.
