Description: 1.85ct round brilliant cut Ruby from the Mogok area of Mayanmar (Burma) This gem has a beautiful pinkish red colour and its size makes it a superb solitaire stone from the area renowned for producing the best rubies on the planet. It is somewhat included but does have fairly good diaphaneity (transparency.) It is 100% natural and untreated in any way, no filling, heating, dying or any other form of treatment has been used to enhance this stone. The impurity which gives rubies their colour is chromium but this chromium also prevents crystal growth. So, as the red colour builds up within a piece of corundum so the clarity usually decreases. That is why rubies are rarely found with perfect clarity, the chromium causes the gems to be opaque. Prices for Burmese rubies with good clarity and colour can be astronomical with the best gems fetching millions of dollars!! This ruby may not be at the top of the grading scale but it is still a very nice gemstone indeed and at a far lower price. It is very difficult to put a value on a ruby since prices range from a few tens of pounds up to over a million. I've priced this gem at a level that I believe is below market value in todays market but I am fairly flexible on price so please feel free to make me an offer and I guarantee that no reasonable offer will be refused.
