Her name was RIO, and she opened her doors on the 15th of January. The Rio is the first all Suite Hotel in Las Vegas. It has 430 suites and a 120,000 sq-ft Casino. The resort is named after Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, and has a Carnaval/Mardi Gras theme. In 1993, a 20 story expansion tower was added to the current Ipanema Tower. In 1995 a new 52 story tower began construction, which was completed and opened in 1997. The 51 story Masquerade tower is the tallest building outside the strip at this time.
